On October 10-11, 50 participants from 14 African cities gathered for the 6th MUFPP Regional Forum for Africa on “School Meals Programmes for Healthier and Sustainable African Cities.”
The event, organized by the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) and the City of Addis Ababa as part of the Cities Feeding the Future initiative, with the support of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the AfriFOODlinks project, offered attendees the opportunity to showcase successful examples of school meal initiatives across the African continent and to advocate towards key actors for the crucial role that cities and local governments can play in delivering this invaluable service for their citizens.
The event culminated in the adoption of the “Summary of Agreement and Ways Forward,” a declaration submitted to the African Union that underscores the urgency of addressing nutritional challenges. Additionally, three new cities joined the Milan Pact, further strengthening the initiative.
