Online 12/2020

The Working Group Food held its second online meeting for 2020 in December, concentrating the efforts of member cities on two main goals: giving to all the cities involved the space to share their latest updates, thanks to parallel breakout rooms, and developing a co-created planning for the next year, through a shared editable document.

Several goals emerged for the 2021 activities: become the European platform for sharing how to successfully co-create urban food strategies, continue the advocacy on the role of cities for food system transformation particularly in the framework of the ‘Farm to fork’ and support Eurocities members in successfully applying for EU fundings related to food.

Brief highlights from 2020 achievements were presented.

  • A consortium led by the city of Milan and gathering several members of the WG Food successfully applied for a Horizon 2020 call and is now implementing a project on urban food strategies creation called Food Trails. which will provide resources to work on advocacy, capacity building for cities and for communicating the work of cities for food system transformation.
  • WG Food members were able to circulate knowledge during some of the hardest periods of the pandemic on how best to ensure access to food during the Covid-19 outbreak.
  • The WG Food was able to advocate on the role of cities in the Farm to Fork strategy, by collaborating in the EU food coalition and in the European Commission Farm to Fork advisory board, by submitting Eurocities answers to the consultation.
