MUFPP 3rd Annual Gathering and Mayors Summit

400 mayors, experts and city delegates from the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact gathered on the occasion of the 3rd MUFPP Annual Gathering and Mayors Summit in Valencia from 19 – 21 October 2017 to discuss sustainable urban food systems .

It is in the hands of the mayors to lay the ground for participation of every city to meet this global challenge, and the cities have to share their good practices with other cities” said Joan Ribó, Mayor of Valenciacities are the essence of civilisation. The history of the evolution of societies is full of collaborative processes. Only by working together we will make a difference”.

The event lasts three days, including one day dedicated to parallel events of partners and stakeholders, the Milan Pact Awards Ceremony, the Mayors Debate, a session dedicated to the report on MUFPP Monitoring Framework advancements, as well as social gatherings in the beautiful venues such as the “Mercado Central” of València and the “Salón de Cristal”, Town Hall of València.

At the end of Milan Pact Awards Ceremony, it was announced that the city hosting the upcoming 2018 MUFPP Annual Gathering and Mayors’ Summit will be the city of Tel Aviv-Yafo.

At the end of the gathering, cities shared the “Valencia Appeal”, an appeal to the UN Secretary and the all UN agencies for their efforts to foster inclusion, resilience and sustainability to be recognised. They call on the UN bodies “to adopt multi-level approaches to food systems governance” acknowledging “the need to include actors at subnational level in upcoming review and follow up to the global agendas”. Cities also urge UN agencies, governments and civil society to “include sustainable and actionable initiatives to strengthen urban rural linkages integral to sustainable development“.
