Milan Pact Awards: a prize to stimulate the exchange of good practices

One of the most important goals of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) is to stimulate the exchange of good  practices and learning between signatory cities. To foster this collaboration the MUFPP Secretariat in collaboration with Fondazione Cariplo launched the Milan Pact Awards.
The Milan Pact Awards will reward innovative  projects on urban food policies implemented  by signatory cities in relation to  the MUFPP and its six thematic categories of the Framework for Action:

 1. Governance or ensuring an enabling environment for effective action

 2.  Sustainable diets and nutrition

 3. Social and economic equity

 4. Food production including urban rural linkages

 5. Food supply and distribution ·

6. Food waste prevention, reduction and management

The awards are designed in the spirit of the overarching statement in the MUFPP itself to support:
sustainable food systems that are inclusive, resilient, safe and diverse, that provide healthy and affordable food to all people in a human rights-based framework, that minimize waste and conserve biodiversity while adapting to and mitigating impacts of climate change
There are two types of recognitions:
Six practices will be awarded with special mention plates as the highest scoring practice in each of the six categories of the Framework for Action.
Two practices will be awarded with two monetary prizes of EUR 15.000 each to be used for peer-to-peer technical assistance to other MUFPP city/cities:
The deadline to submit the policy or practice is  Friday 12 August 2016.
An evaluation committee composed major experts will evaluate submissions of the cities.
The awards ceremony will take place on 14 October 2016  during the second Annual Gathering of mayors hosted in Rome by FAO, on the occasion of  the World Food Day.
