Milan selected to host the next MUFPP Global Forum of cities committed to the development of sustainable urban food systems.
Ten years after EXPO Milano 2015, next October Milan will once again serve as an international arena for cities committed to promoting sustainable urban policies aimed at ensuring healthier, fairer and more sustainable food systems. A commitment carried out nowadays by over 300 cities that have decided to develop inclusive and resilient food policies in their urban agendas.

Upon the proposal of Mayor Giuseppe Sala, Chair of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact, the MUFPP Steering Committee decided to celebrate this important anniversary in Milan, the place where it all began in 2015. The upcoming MUFPP Global Forum will be held in October 2025 alongside the World Food Day, an opportunity to reflect on progress and set the course for the next decade of collaboration on sustainable transformation of urban food systems.
‘We are proud and excited to announce this important event, which will not only be a celebration of what has been achieved, but a significant opportunity to lay out the way forward,’ highlights Anna Scavuzzo, Vice Mayor of Milan and Deputy Mayor for Education in charge of Food Policy.
‘The Milan Pact is one of the main legacies of EXPO Milano 2015 – “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”, a global commitment of mayors from all over the world committed to developing more sustainable and innovative urban food systems. An experience that allowed us to collect experiences from all over the world, exchange good practices and build new ones together. Thanks to the efforts of hundreds of people, partners and governments, to date the Milan Pact represents the main international framework for cities and stakeholders active in the definition of innovative urban food policies. The Global Forum represents a unique opportunity for signatory cities to come together, share knowledge and best practices, build partnerships and celebrate collective progress‘.
The Global Forum will also host the Milan Pact Awards Ceremony, which will reward the most innovative and impactful food policies implemented by signatory cities. Thanks to the Milan Pact Awards, over the years the MUFPP has built the largest and most comprehensive library of food policies officially approved by Mayors around the world, representing the shared knowledge of the Milan Pact.
Over the past ten years, the Milan Pact has evolved into a dynamic and growing network: from the 100 initial signatory cities, it now counts more than 300, thus having the potential to impact around 500 million people across its six regions. Furthermore, exchange and capacity building activities based on cities’ learning needs have intensified over the years, thanks to the precious support from international and regional organisations, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and philanthropic foundations.
The upcoming Global Forum will count on strong partnerships with key stakeholders such as Fondazione Cariplo and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), as well as many other local and international partners.
