Milan and Amman Exchange Knowledge on Food Waste
Since the beginning of 2024, FAO has been supporting Greater Amman Municipality (Jordan) to tackle the pressing issue of food waste, in collaboration with the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) and the NGO Let’s Food. Throughout the year, Amman and Milan have engaged in peer learning, sharing their unique perspectives and experiences. The Let’s Food NGO has played a key role in facilitating these exchanges, providing essential support to Amman in the development of its Food Waste Management Action Plan. The plan is based on a participatory assessment of food losses and waste in Amman, incorporating insights gathered during two workshops with local stakeholders. This collaborative approach ensures the plan reflects the city’s specific needs and opportunities, and it will be pivotal for the operationalization of food system transformation at the urban level.
The “Together in Action on Food Losses and Waste at City Level workshop marks the culmination of this important initiative, highlighting the role of peer-to-peer learning in addressing global food system challenges at the local level.
