The “Water and food system. A key nexus for urban food policies” is the third report of a series developed by MUFPP in collaboration with AICS – the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).
The report addresses the relationship between food and water systems in the context of urban food policies: water is vital for urban life, impacting public health, the economy, and social equity. Cities manage key infrastructure like aqueducts, treatment plants, and sewage systems but face challenges from pollution, overuse, and climate change.
Resilient policies are needed to ensure equitable access to clean water, especially for vulnerable groups. Sustainable agriculture and multilevel governance help balance urban demands with environmental protection. By promoting water conservation, education, and urban farming, cities can enhance resource sustainability and food security while tackling climate and urbanization challenges.
