MUFPP Global Forum 2025

The city of Milan hosted the MUFPP Global Forum from 13 to 17 October 2025, under the theme Building on a decade of joint success. Envisioning the future of urban food systems. The event was a unique opportunity for cities, political representatives, and international organizations, to celebrate the MUFPP’s first decade of activity and, on this occasion, return to Milan, the city where the initiative was launched during EXPO 2015.

The Forum brought together over 500 attendees, including delegates from more than 130 cities, as well as representatives of international and civil society organisations, partner agencies and academia. All participants were committed to five days of dialogue, collaboration and field visits across the city, with the aim of continuing to develop and advance urban food policies.

The Global Forum featured a wide range of sessions focusing on the role of food as a strategic driver for sustainable development. The Opening Plenary kicked off the event with politicians from the MUFPP network discussing their local priorities, best practices and insights drawn from their diverse experiences, highlighting the ways in which cities are leading the transition towards more sustainable, inclusive and resilient food systems. The Governor of Bangkok, the Mayors of Bethlehem and Quelimane, and the Vice Mayor of Paris took part in the discussion, along with Milan’s Vice Mayor Anna Scavuzzo.

The event brought together key actors and stakeholders in the international food policy arena, including C40, EAT Foundation, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, Rikolto, Natural Resources Defense Council, RUAF, UNEP, the World Bank, and the World Farmers Market Coalition, among others.

The Forum was further enriched by the participation of key speakers, including Carlo Petrini (Founder of Slow Food), Jane Battersby (Associate Professor at the University of Cape Town), Stefano Gatti (Director General for Development Cooperation and Special Envoy for Food Security, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation), and Nosipho Nausca-Jean Jezile (Chair of the FAO Committee on World Food Security) and many others.
