The 2008 global food price crisis, climate change, malnutrition and other current challenges helped spur many cities to realize the need for more comprehensive and systemic approaches to food, nutrition and agriculture in the priorities and governance of cities. Cities have demonstrated their central and growing role in achieving 2030 Sustainable Development Goals since they face several challenges as climate change, economic development, health and environment among other issues.
